Paint, nails, thread on plywood board - 100cm x 100cm
This piece depicts a sense of movement, as if the portrait is turning to the side. The face on the left side is the most bold and distinct portrait, and this boldness slowly fades until we see the face on the far right, which barely depicts the outline of the face. I created this effect by using different tones of black, grey and white threads, and eased the layers of thread as I worked from left to right. I have applied paint to the background that the threadwork sits against. The paint is applied in broad, chaotic brushstrokes, to contrast well with the detailed and delicate threadwork.

Imogen Morris is an artist living and working in Birmingham, UK. Imogen was born in Birmingham in 1991 and received a first-class degree from Kingston University in Fine Art and Art History (BA hons) in 2013. She has been a practicing artist for 6 years, and her works are held in a number of private and public collections in the UK and internationally.
Imogen's practice challenges the boundaries between craft and fine art. By putting a contemporary spin on thread, Imogen transforms a traditional material into sculptural form. She constructs figurative works that hover between 2D and 3D - part drawing, part painting, part sculpture.
Imogen was recently awarded a residency at Bankside Hotel, London, completed her largest corporate commission to date for PR Robotic Packaging. (Netherlands), and became a Graduate Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. She continues to receive esteemed endorsement from the King's Trust.
