Despite its vibrancy, War and Rumours of War developed from a period of emotional helplessness. The work began under conditions of restraint and quiet endurance, shaped by the experience of caring for someone beyond protection or intervention. As the piece evolved, colour emerged with increasing force, overtaking the surface in a gradual release. This shift reflects the coexistence of conflicting emotional states - concern and acceptance, intensity and surrender. The painting explores this duality, holding contradiction within a single frame rather than resolving it.
